Understanding New Year’s Resolutions

New Year’s resolutions go so badly that most people don’t set them anymore, but why is that?
Over the last 10 years of coaching, I’ve learned that there are three major mistakes we make and three very easy fixes.
Mistake #1: Setting the wrong goal
It sounds insane, but most people do this. Instead of saying what makes your heart sing and setting a goal for that, we say something we think will help make us worthy of our want or desire. For example, You really want a happy relationship but you say “I want to lose weight.”
You choose to lose weight not because you really want to lose weight but because you think that losing weight will make you more attractive to a prospective partner. Even though that may be true, it causes us to approach our goals, wants, desires and resolutions all wrong. . . and we lose motivation because we’re not serving our heart’s truest wants!
The easy fix here is to know and to follow your heart. If you are having trouble knowing what your heart is saying to you. Contact me through the contact page and we’ll give you a free 15-minute session so you know where to point your attention this year! Happy New Years!!
Mistake #2: Not having a plan
Yes, it’s true. Plans are made to be broken. But there’s one thing I’ve learned as an adult is that even though the best-laid plans always go askew when I have a plan I can see when I’ve gotten off course. And we always have the power to affect what we can see.
When you have a plan, you can see when things aren’t working out and that gives you a chance to solve those problems that are getting in the way. Next, if you’re willing to celebrate each one of those problems solved, you will see your progress and find a better plan. Both of these things will help you find more joy in your resolution and help you stick with your resolution.
The easy fix here. Always look and make sure your health is strong enough for your relationship and prosperity goals. If you want to start a new business outside your regular job… you would need to have enough energy to do so and stay healthy. That may mean you need a workout plan before the business plan. The second place to look is always your relationships. Are they happy and harmonious? If not, start there before working on prosperity. This will ensure that any results you produce won’t fade away with time! If you are not sure where to start, Contact me through the contact page and we’ll give you a free 15-minute session so you know where to point your attention this year! Happy New Years!!
Mistake #3: Being serious about your Resolution
I’m probably more serious than the next guy, but the truth is as being serious doesn’t make us any more likely to get and keep our New Year’s resolution. In fact, people who treat their New Year’s resolution more like a fun game are more likely to win the prize (your resolution)!
When we play board games it’s not uncommon to lose a turn or part of our money. When this happens we keep playing, but in life when any of these things happen we make up very serious things about ourselves or others which take us out of the game.
The easy fix here is to celebrate, celebrate, celebrate. Every time you put away a few dollars towards that dream home or car, celebrate by telling a friend or doing a happy jig. Over time, you will program your body, mind, and spirit to get happy over progress. . . That’s how we get to the bigger goals of being able to afford a month off work to travel or the private jet. If you know you need to lighten up, but need some help contact me through the contact page and we’ll give you a free 15-minute session so you know where to point your attention this year! Happy New Years!!
How to Pick Your New Year’s Resolution
New Year’s resolutions go so badly that most people don’t set them anymore, but you don’t have to be one the cynics who are resigned to the same old, same old.
Follow your heart.
This is your life. You don’t have to want what others want or say you should want.
Make sure your plan has an order.
1st Strong Health 2nd Harmonious Relationships 3rd Prosperity.
Mistakes will happen.
This is your life. Forgive yourself and others, Celebrate the small wins, And never ever stop playing. . . you can’t lose if you don’t stop playing and you can’t win if you don’t play.
